BBC Two is the BBC's second main channel, and was established in 1964 at the behest of then-channel controller, Sir David Attenborough. The channel would be the first to air colour programming, which it would do during the 1967 Wimbledon final.

Beginning from 1978, the channel would start airing the original incarnation of Top Gear, which it would continue to do so until February of 2002. It would then air the subsequent relaunch from 2002 until 2015, and its soft reboot from 2016 until 2019, where from the year after it would move to BBC One for the first time since 1977.

The channel is also historically known for airing many other motoring themed programmes, such as Jeremy Clarkson's Motorworld.

From 2014 - 2015, the channel would celebrate its 50th anniversary by bringing back its famed 1991 - 2001 idents.
