''Sounds of The Stig'' was a tongue-in-cheek "album" whose cover was briefly shown on the dashboard of a [[Volkswagen Golf R32#First_generation|Volkswagen Golf R32]] as it was taken around by [[The Stig]] for a power lap. The selection of these music tracks set the tone for the character of The Stig, who would be characterised as a listener of easy-listening and blues music long after the character ventured into other genres throughout later series.

If compiled together and made into a real album, its fourteen tracks would total a length of 54:15. Boston's "More Than A Feeling" was also heard during the power laps for the [[Aston Martin Vanquish]] and [[Ferrari 575M Maranello]], but [[Jeremy Clarkson]] claimed that The Stig had bought the CD himself, so has not been included. If included, the album's length would extend further to 15 tracks and precisely 59:00 long.

It is worth mentioning that every track heard during the show's inaugural episode was composed by Burt Bacharach, who along with The Carpenters, gave their namesakes to corners of the [[Top Gear Test Track]].
