The twelfth series of Top Gear premiered in the United Kingdom on the 2nd November, 2008, and concluded on the 28th December, 2008, after a run of 8 episodes. The series' main host was Jeremy Clarkson, and he was accompanied by Richard Hammond, James May and The Stig as co-presenters. The series was produced at Television Centre in Wood Lane, London, and aired on BBC Two in a 60-minute studio format. Series 12 attracted an average viewership rating of 7.32 million viewers per episode, with a peak of 7.74 million viewers for Episode 1, and a low of 6.70 million viewers for Vietnam Special.

Highlights from this series include the series finale, which flipped the show's format on its head and became one of the show's most critically-acclaimed episodes. This is in addition to the show celebrating its 100th episode, although the show did not purposefully celebrate this achievement.
