The Ford GT40 Concept was a V8-powered bespoke supercar produced by Ford from 2002 until 2003. Following a name change owing to a lawsuit, the company slowly developed it into the production-ready GT in order to celebrate the company's 100th anniversary.
Production history[edit source]
Under the direction of J Mays, the GT40 Concept was designed to superficially resemble the original Ford GT40 from the outside, whilst being larger to offer greater headroom, particularly for taller drivers. The resultant car was 44 inches tall.
Media appearances[edit source]
The Ford GT40 Concept made its television debut for Series 9, Episode 26 of Motor Week on the 24th January, 2002. This car was briefly shown as part of Motor Week's segment on the Detroit Auto Show, which was narrated by Richard Hammond. It made its final televised appearance for Top Gear's first episode back on the 20th October 2002, which was coincidentally also presented by Hammond.
