The fifth series of Top Gear premiered in the United Kingdom on the 24th October, 2004, and concluded on the 26th December, 2004, after a run of 9 episodes. The series' main host was Jeremy Clarkson, and he was accompanied by Richard Hammond, James May and The Stig as co-presenters. The series was produced at Television Centre in Wood Lane, London, and aired on BBC Two in a 60-minute studio format. Series 5 attracted an average viewership rating of 4.15 million viewers per episode, with a peak of 5.06 million viewers for Episode 8, and a low of 3.3 million viewers for Episode 9.

Highlights from this series include the climbing up a Scottish mountain in a Land Rover Discovery, the inaugural game of Caravan Conkers, the epic race from Guildford to Verbier between Clarkson in a Ferrari 612 Scaglietti and the other two presenters in a jet, and a test drive of the Ariel Atom in the series finale.
