Synopsis
The Greatest Cars in The World was a special filmed at different places:
The Greatest Cars in The World was a special filmed at a race track where Tiff and Vicki set out to determine the greatest car ever made.
- at a race track, where Tiff is set out to determine the greatest car ever made
- in a classic car show (Quentin Willson's first segment)
- in a studio (Quentin Willson's second segment - about the Jaguar E-Type)

Opening up with a shot of Vicki walking in a pair of stiletto high heels while seductively rubbing her finger along the bodywork of a Lamborghini Murciélago, she announces the purpose of the episode before Quentin says "This'll be fun!". Adrian then does a voiceover saying how all of the presenters have driven every single car ever made, saying this'll be a special programme devoted to the cars they love the most, with then Vicki saying "Weird chaps!". A few fading-in and fading-out shots of cars are shown, then a few clips of cars (from rally stages or other events) being shown, with then later Quentin doing his voiceover:

Accompanied by a Ferrari Daytona and Dino 246 GT, Tiff then exclaims that contrary to popular belief, he believes the greatest Ferrari ever made is not one of their well-renowned classic models, but rather their (as of 2002) most recent sports car; the 360 Modena.

- "These people are all savering our greatest of the greats. But before we reveal it to you, we will be appreciating some of our other, favorite motors."

Then Tiff is shown walking in a pier saying, that their choices may settle a few debates, or start a lot more. All of the presenters then did a voiceover, explaining which cars would be obviously excluded from the "greatest cars" list, mainly due to them being too obvious of a choice and that their choices are far more personal:
- original Mini Cooper (Vicki's voiceover)
- Ford Model T "Tin Lizzy" (Adrian's voiceover)
- Toyota Corolla (Quentin's voiceover)
- Volkswagen Beetle (Tiff's voiceover)
- Porsche 911 (Vicki's voiceover)
- Volkswagen Golf + the GTi model (Adrian's voiceover)

After the voice over, with Quentin asking as to where should they begin, a few close shots of a Ferrari 360 Modena are shown, with Tiff Needell then proceeding to narrate a brief history of the company as it approaches its 60th year of operation. On reflection, Tiff feels the F40 is a truly sensational car, both visually and physically. The car feels like a "monster" that doesn't "bite"; it just wants to make you go faster and faster. Compared against the later 360, the two cars complement each other well, and is a 'tremendously emotional' experience to get behind the wheel of either. He cannot wait to see what the company comes up with next.

Nominee 3: Rolls-Royces
Quentin says that a programme about the best cars in the world can't be started without considering a "very British paragon of engineering excellence" - Rolls-Royce.
The word "Rolls-Royce" has become a generic superlative; part of the language. We called Concorde the "Rolls-Royce" of aeroplanes, the Orient Express as the "Rolls-Royce" of trains, but does the double-barreled superlative have any sense in reality - was Rolls-Royce really the greatest car in the world, and is it still? Quentin finds out, as he gets blurred, with the Rolls-Royce "Spirit of Ecstasy" figure being in focus. The question is being given to the random people.
Driven Rolls-Royces are being shown, in a huge classic car show, while random people voice their answer to Quentin's question. One of the people, who voiced their opinion, think that it's not just about motoring in them as it's about travelling in them, while the other person thinks they were looking for this car for their entire life. It's said by them, that the cars are being made almost without the cost in mind.
Quentin then asks a random person from the show if some their best friends have Rolls-Royces, with their answer being very positive, that they do have one.
One grey-haired person says, that there are cars which are more reliable, faster, more comfortable, but there's nothing comparable to a Rolls-Royce, especially a new one. Quentin narrates a short story about Rolls-Royce, with the first founder of Rolls-Royce being notably the first Englishman to die in a plane crash. However, it makes Rolls-Royce more determined to honor their creator's name, alongside a mention of when some lady asked Mr. Royce "what happens, if Rolls-Royce would've produced a bad car?", with the response being "Madam, the man on the door wouldn't let it out." - which is why after almost a century (at the time of the programme airing), 80% of all Rolls-Royces were so lovingly built, alive and well.
Quentin shows the car, which the original founders of Rolls-Royce were deeply involved in the making - the Rolls-Royce 1450. The name itself didn't catch on, but it was the first car to be ever called the "greatest car in the world" and so it was then known as the Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost.
The Silver Ghost was known to be much quieter than anything made at the time, built in 1907, did 2000 miles with the notoriously gruelous Scottish reliability trial. Engineers from the RAC stripped it down afterwards, and found absolutely nothing wrong. However, Rolls-Royce wasn't satisfied, so they sent one on a 15,000 mile journey,
with the only stops being for sleep, or for fuel - the Silver Ghost never missed a beat. Quentin then complements the Silver Ghost - most notably, he mentions that a one man had to polish the each set of gears by hand, for a grand total 80 hours. That level of care made a immediate autobook - during it's 18-year life, owners included royalty, Russian tsars, the emperor of Japan (he had 2 of them), and Vladimir Lenin, which fitted tracks to his Rolls-Royce. Ghosts were even used in WW1; most famously by Lawrence in Oradia, which claimed a 'Rolls in the desert is above rubies.
Some purists even say, that the Silver Ghost is the "Rolls-Royce" of Rolls-Royces, so is it a case of a downfall of Rolls-Royce ever since? Quentin finds out, as he strolls around the old Rolls-Royces, saying that there were notable highlights along it's way. Quentin invites then the viewer, to look at a 1933 Rolls-Royce, with delectable hand-made bodywork. It was apparently the only one unit in the world, it would cost about 2,500 pounds in 1933, when in 2002 it would've costed around 400-500 thousand pounds. Quentin then calls it the "sexiest Rolls-Royce", telling the viewers to look at it, as the camera moves to the car. Quentin further complements the car, noting the person who owned that Rolls-Royce, which owned an another Rolls-Royce that survived 319,000 miles. Then Quentin moves towards his favorites of Rolls-Royces in the 60s (which would be later covered by Stuart Hall in a certain car show) - the Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud. Some people say, this is the last, proper Rolls-Royce that still had a separate chassis, but for Quentin, the most remarkable thing about the Silver Cloud was the architecture like a "stately home"; like a building - inside being compared to a throne room. Quentin considers this the best piece of sculpture.
Quentin then says, that by later on we had the Silver Shadow and a few 'Royces, that would make serious money. The trouble was, that the modern competition in the shape of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, the V12 Jaguar were on their way, but according to Quentin, none of them had the uniquely aristocratic bearing. Quentin confesses, that he has a enourmous soft spot for the Corniche, because he thinks it's the only "rock and roll" of Rolls-Royce - every celebrity who had money bought it in the 1970s and 1980s.
Quentin says:
"Greatest car in the world? Yes - once. But for many people, it always will be!"
