The Series 22 box set was a box set released by the BBC during 2015 and 2016, containing a home video release of Series 22 of the popular British automotive journalism programme Top Gear.
Release history
Likely due to complications caused to Series 22's production process, owing to lead host Jeremy Clarkson's assault on veteran producer Oisin Tymon, Series 22, in addition to its immediate predecessor, would be released in all major territories except for the United Kingdom. As with every series of the programme since Series 18, the box set was DVD-only, with no high definition Blu-Ray versions available despite the series being filmed and produced in HD.
Australia
The box set was first released[1] in Australia on the 19th August, 2015, less than two months after the final episode aired on television. Titled "The Complete Series 22", this version of the box set featured all eight seasonal episodes of Top Gear's twenty-second series, and was produced by Roadshow Entertainment, who had handled all previous Top Gear box set releases in Australia. Around 15 - 20 minutes have been excised for clearance or regulatory reasons, reducing the original 508 minute length of the episodes down to approximately 490.
Product Description
Amongst other adventures, the trio attempt to reinvent the ambulance, investigate the strange world of classic car ownership, take part in a nail-biting race across St Petersburg and set off on an epic road trip through the wilds of Australia. Also in this series, Clarkson and May look at the highs and lows of one of France's biggest car makers, Hammond pays a dramatic tribute to the dying days of the Land Rover Defender and Jeremy makes up his mind about the BMW i8 hybrid on a trip to buy some fish and chips. Meanwhile, out on the test track there's a scorching line-up of fast cars including the Lamborghini Huracan, the Mercedes AMG GT, the Jaguar F-type R, the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray and the Porsche Cayman GTS. And as if that wasn't enough, the series starts with a sensational special in which the presenters pay tribute to the V8 engine with an epic and arduous trip to the very tip of South America.
United States & Canada
The box set would be subsequently released[2] in North America on the 19th April, 2016 by Warner Home Video. This version of the box set is known as "The Complete Season 22", and includes the Patagonia Special that was previously absent in the Australian release, totalling in a 10 hour runtime, with around half an hour of material cut between the 10 featured episodes.
Product Description
Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, James May and The Stig are back in the all-new 22nd series of the world's favourite car show. In this specially extended series, the presenters race each other across St Petersburg, embark on an ambitious project to build better ambulances, find the perfect classic convertibles for an English summer, celebrate the world's most indecisive car company, and pay perilous tribute to the Land Rover Defender. Plus, there are sensational road trips, tyre-smoking track tests, top celebrity guests, the ultimate face-off between the world s greatest hypercars and an epic end-of-series special across one of the most remote and spectacular places on the planet.
Europe
Finally, the box set would be released[3] across Europe on Region 2 on the 19th June, 2016. Like the Region 1 release, the European version also includes the Patagonia Special, but unfortunately suffers from further cuts, reducing the overall runtime down to 564 minutes from the original 633. This was likely done in order to secure an FSK 12[4] rating. In the Netherlands, Series 22 was released in a form similar[5] to how it was in Australia, without the Patagonia Special, and only features 2 discs, whereas all other DVD box sets of Series 22 contained 3 discs.
