Autocar magazine, formerly The Autocar until its 3,438th[1] issue in January 1962, is the name of a British automotive magazine which has ran since November of 1895, making it a landmark publication in several factors. It is the earliest known magazine dedicated to the car, the longest-running automotive magazine by a considerable margin, beating out its defunct former rival Motor by 8 years, and is the automotive magazine with the highest number of issues; as of early October 2022, there have been 6,534[2] issues spread across 314 volumes, with its most recent volume commencing on the 28th September, 2022.

Merger with Motor magazine[edit | edit source]

In 1988, Autocar merged with Motor magazine to become Autocar & Motor, a name which it held until September 1994, six years after its merger. As a result, issues #4,776 through #5,093 are shared with Motor.
