The Series 22 box set was a box set released by the BBC during 2015 and 2016, containing a home video release of Series 22 of the popular British automotive journalism programme Top Gear.

Release history[edit | edit source]

Likely due to complications caused to Series 22's production process, owing to lead host Jeremy Clarkson's assault on veteran producer Oisin Tymon, Series 22, in addition to its immediate predecessor, would be released in all major territories except for the United Kingdom. As with every series of the programme since Series 18, the box set was DVD-only, with no high definition Blu-Ray versions available despite the series being filmed and produced in HD.

Australia[edit | edit source]

The box set was first released[1] in Australia on the 19th August, 2015, less than two months after the final episode aired on television. Titled "The Complete Series 22", this version of the box set featured all eight seasonal episodes of Top Gear's twenty-second series, and was produced by Roadshow Entertainment, who had handled all previous Top Gear box set releases in Australia. Around 15 - 20 minutes have been excised for clearance or regulatory reasons, reducing the original 508 minute length of the episodes down to approximately 490.

United States & Canada[edit | edit source]

The box set would be subsequently released[2] in North America on the 19th April, 2016 by Warner Home Video. This version of the box set is known as "The Complete Season 22", and includes the Patagonia Special that was previously absent in the Australian release, totalling in a 10 hour runtime, with around half an hour of material cut between the 10 featured episodes.

Europe[edit | edit source]

Finally, the box set would be released[3] across Europe on Region 2 on the 19th June, 2016. Like the Region 1 release, the European version also includes the Patagonia Special, but unfortunately suffers from further cuts, reducing the overall runtime down to 564 minutes from the original 633. This was likely done in order to secure an FSK 12[4] rating. In the Netherlands, Series 22 was released in a form similar[5] to how it was in Australia, without the Patagonia Special, and only features 2 discs, whereas all other DVD box sets of Series 22 contained 3 discs.

Japan[edit | edit source]

8 days after the box set was released in Europe, Series 22 was also released[6] in Region 2 for the Japanese market, on behalf of BS Fuji TV. This release was produced by Sunpros, and like most other releases, came on 3 discs but featured just the eight episodes which aired during the series.
