The Alfa Romeo SZ was a sports car built by Zagato on behalf of Alfa Romeo as an attempt to revitalise the latter's sporting heritage. It was partly succeeded by the revived Alfa Romeo GTV nameplate, the car which it had also replaced, but due to its extremely-limited production run of just 1,036 units, along with 284 convertible variants known as the RZ, actually bears a closer relation to the Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione and later still Alfa Romeo 4C, in particular the limited-run Disco Volante based on the former.
Appearance[edit | edit source]
Strangely, the SZ never appeared on any automotive journalism-themed programme within a review context back when it was new. In fact, its only known televised appearance came in Series 6, Episode 11 of Top Gear, where it was used by host James May to produce a particular engine note for his rendition of the show's theme tune.
